2008 St. Camillus Salubrity Award Honorees

The centerpiece of the evening’s program was the presentation of the 2008 St. Camillus Salubrity Award for exceptional dedication to St. Camillus. The awards were presented by Patricia Curtin, Chair of the St. Camillus Health and Rehabilitation Center Board of Trustees and James Murphy, Chair of the St. Camillus Foundation Broad of Trustees. The 2008 honorees are:

Rev. Monsignor Charles Fahey
Monsignor Fahey has been described as the moving spirit in the establishment of St. Camillus. As Assistant Director, then Diocesan Director of Catholic Charities, Monsignor Fahey was St. Camillus’ link to the Syracuse Roman Catholic Diocese in the 1960's when plans and goals for new subacute healthcare facilities in Central New York were formulated and implemented. In early 1968, he formally joined St. Camillus as a Member of the St. Camillus Corporation and Trustee. Beyond his work with St. Camillus, Monsignor Fahey is a nationally recognized author and lecturer on health care issues. He has shared his expertise on the local, state, national and international levels, by serving on numerous task forces, committees, commissions, councils, and associations.  Monsignor Fahey continues today as a Member and Trustee Emeritus.

John J. “Bud” Costello
John "Bud" Costello is truly a "founding father" of St. Camillus. His wisdom, dedication and guidance were instrumental in St. Camillus' founding and evolution from the 120 bed health care facility to the one of the largest skilled nursing facilities in Central New York and a leading provider of post-acute and long-term services in our community. At the first meeting of the Incorporators and Board of Trustees in March 1967, Bud was elected Trustee and Assistant Secretary and, in November 1967, joined in the ground breaking for the first building in the St. Camillus complex. For more than 40 years, Bud has continued service to St. Camillus as a Member of the St. Camillus Corporation and as an active Trustee and Emeritus Trustee.

John H. Clancy
John Clancy was elected as a Member of the St. Camillus Corporation and Trustee of St. Camillus Health and Rehabilitation Center in 1970, during St. Camillus' first year of operation. He was elected annually to the post of Vice President from 1971 to 1985. He also served on numerous committees during his 38 years as a Trustee and Member, including Building and Grounds, Ethics/Dispute Mediation, Executive, Nominating, Operations and Planning, Personnel, Public Relations, and Quality Assurance. John passed away on April 7, 2008. One of his daughters, Susan Clancy-Magley, accepted the Salubrity Award on his behalf.
