The New York State Fair Comes to St. Camillus!

Yesterday marked the start of the New York State Fair – not just at the Fairgrounds, but at The Centers at St. Camillus, too!

The Dining Services staff decorated the dining room with balloons and streamers and dressed for the occasion in country attire. Residents enjoyed a Syracuse favorite, Dinosaur BBQ, with baked beans and corn on the cob. After lunch, the Ice Cream Booth was a big hit with residents, who then went on to play the ever popular Duck Pond Game where everybody wins a prize!

New Flag & Pole Dedicated at St. Camillus Today Courtesy of Camillus VFW Post 8664

Thank you to our generous friends and neighbors at the Camillus VFW Post 8664, who visited St. Camillus on Wednesday, August 15 and invited our resident Veterans and staff to join in a special new American Flag and new Flag Pole dedication ceremony.

The Camillus VFW purchased and donated the new flag pole to St. Camillus and dedicated it in loving memory of Ruth Houser. Dick Houser, her husband, is a member of the Camillus VFW and was on hand to place the memorial sign at the base of the new flag pole.

The Camillus VFW also donated a new flag that flew over our nation’s Capitol on July 5, 2018, that was obtained by them with the help of Congressman John Katko.

The dedication ceremony concluded with VFW members visiting with staff and residents, and everyone thanking all Veterans in attendance for their service!

Solvay Elementary Kindergarten Classes Visit St. Camillus!

Residents, patients and staff members at The Centers at St. Camillus were all smiles on Tuesday, June 19 as two classes of kindergarten students from Solvay Elementary School visited to “entertain the troops!” They sang several patriotic songs throughout the facility and even performed one number with sign language. Each child wore a shirt displaying their own artwork, a hand-painted version of the American Flag. One St. Camillus resident, a Veteran, said, “I just love this! These kids right here, this is who we fought for.”

Special thanks to the students and their teachers Mrs. Lori Reale and Tammy Hastings, and all the faculty, parents and families at Solvay Elementary School for honoring St. Camillus residents with their visit and through their music.

46 Years of Service is a lot to Celebrate!

Patty Bova, or “Bova” as she is better known, is retiring on Friday, February 5. After 46 years of dedicated service, she is hanging up her apron. A valued member of the Maintenance Crew, Bova has repaired more wheelchairs than we can count.  As one of our longest employed team members, she is fixture at St. Camillus.

Ask anyone who knows her, and they’ll tell you that she does NOT like being the center of attention, which is why Bova’s supervisor, David Castaldo (Director of Maintenance), along with help from many of Bova’s co-workers, planned a surprise party.

Bova will be missed by our staff, patients, and residents. We wish her unlimited health and happiness in her retirement!
