Cognitive Health
Services
offers a variety of
programs and services
that are geared toward
helping persons with
dementia cope with the
disease and build on
their remaining skills
as well as providing
support to family
caregivers and staff.
Individuals who may
benefit from our
services live at St.
Camillus as well as at
home, and span the
continuum from healthy
older adults who simply
want to maintain their
brain health to
individuals who have
severe cognitive
impairment.
Residential Programs:
For individuals who
reside at St. Camillus,
their family members
and staff.
Best Friends Afternoon
Group: For selected
residents of St.
Camillus who have
dementia and can
benefit from a
structured group in the
late afternoon (Monday
- Friday).
Memory Enhancement
Class: Encourages
residents to use their
cognitive skills
through written and
oral discussion
exercises on
a variety of topics.
Designed for
individuals with mild
cognitive impairment or
any resident who wants
to maintain or improve
their cognitive skills.
After 6: An evening
program with theme
tables for residents
(e.g. a flower
arranging table, a
reading table,
a
jewelry table etc.)
that encourage
socialization and
engagement with the
materials.
Food, Fun, and Film
Fest: A lunch-time
educational program for
staff that features a
film pertaining to
dementia followed by
discussion.
Community-Based
Programs: For
individuals residing in
the community.
Alzheimer’s Caregiver
Support Group: A
monthly support group
for any caregiver of a
person with Alzheimer’s
disease
or a related dementia.
The group is open to
anyone in the community
and is co-sponsored by
St. Camillus and the
Alzheimer’s
Association, Central
New York Chapter.
Caregiver Education
Programs: Educational
programs for both
family members of
persons living at St.
Camillus as well as
those living in the
community. Topics
relate to caring for a
person with dementia as
well as taking care of
oneself.
The Memory Academy: A
12-week curriculum
designed for older
adults who want to
learn more about
maintaining their brain
health. The course
combines mental and
physical fitness
exercises, stress
reduction, nutrition,
and socialization.
Stay Sharp: Serper at
St. Camillus: This is a
structured cognitive
rehabilitation program
designed for persons
with mild cognitive
impairment who wish to
maintain or improve
their skills. Sessions
are offered in small
groups (3 – 4 people)
for 12 weeks and use
Serper Method
workbooks.
